ACS(I) students smash world record -- Bollywood style

Students and teachers of ACS(I) gathered on April 29 to perform a massive bollywood dance on the field. With 1082 participants, it was a student-initiated attempt to break the record for the most number of people in a bollywood dance.

According to the school, the mass dance, choreographed and organised by the students of Anglo Chinese School (Independent), broke the previous record of 314 people in a bollywood dance.

Mr. Ong Eng Huat, President of the Singapore Book of Records, and a professional bollywood dance instructor, were present to witness the event.

Documentation of the record-breaking feat will also be sent to the Guinness Book of World Records for validation.

In a statement posted on the school's website, ACS(I) says:

“Despite the heat and unbearable humidity that threatened to deter students from participating in the dance, students and teachers were full of enthusiasm and eager anticipation.

“Dance rehearsals were carried out two weeks before the actual breaking of the record, which was the culmination of weeks of tireless planning by student councillors and dedicated student volunteers.

“In all, 1082 students and teachers successfully completed the dance, convincingly smashing the previous record of 314 people doing the dance.

“Notably, this event was an almost entirely student initiated and managed one. The dance steps were all originally choreographed by a few talented students, and the documentation of evidence was also facilitated greatly by the school’s own Photographic Society and Media Productions Team.

“Many parents, teachers, and even friends from outside school were present to witness this sensational record breaking attempt.

“Furthermore, the president of the Singapore Book of Records, Mr. Ong Eng Huat was present to witness the event. The school's attempt has already been confirmed by the Singapore Book or Records, and the school has been presented with a certificate substantiating this record.

“Also, Mr. Pantilag, a professional bollywood dance instructor, was at hand to confirm that the dance choreographed by the students was a bollywood dance.

“Evidently, teachers and students alike had a memorable and enjoyable experience, as the process of learning the dance and eventually breaking the record definitely was a delightfully pleasing one."
