For the first time ever, Singapore Polytechnic's (SP) academic curriculum is relocated to a satellite campus more than 2000 miles away from Singapore. Sixty-seven SP students from the School of Chemical and Life Sciences (CLS) and School of Design (SD) have gone on a term-long immersion programme in Da Lian, China.
The Immersion Programme is intended to expose students to the political, social, cultural and economic environment of the populous China. Besides having one of the most dynamic food consumer markets in the world, China also has a colourful and rich history in arts which can benefit them. SP students will be exposed to the foray of the Chinese food manufacturing and distribution systems and supply chain network.
However, it won't be all work and no play. SP students will also be touring different parts of China to understand their way of life. Even for those students of Malay descent, they would have no problems understanding the culture and lessons because they will be paired up with local English speaking buddies who will share bits and pieces of their culture.
This is without doubt that it will be one of their most memorable experience.
